Ingredients

2 cans (21 oz each) apple pie filling

1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix (or butter pecan, or spice cake mix)

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted (or 1 can lemon-lime soda)

Optional:

1 tsp ground cinnamon

½ cup chopped pecans

Caramel sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Pour the apple pie filling into the baking dish and spread it evenly.
  • Sprinkle the dry cake mix evenly over the apple filling. Do not stir.
  • Drizzle melted butter evenly over the cake mix. Alternatively, pour soda to cover the mix.
  • Bake for 45–50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
  • Let cool slightly and serve warm. Add ice cream and caramel if desired.

Notes

  • For a crispier topping, use butter instead of soda.
  • You can substitute the apple pie filling with peach, cherry, or mixed berries.
  • Best served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
  • Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 5 days.
